carving knife Options

Can anyone recommend a good carving knife? I tried to carve a large pork joint last weekend and I was in so much pain! Wondering if it is worth getting an electric one? XX Ailsa

We have an electric one Ailsa and it is fantastic, so much easier to carve with.
Can't help with where to get it from because it was a wedding present 31 years ago!

Hi Ailsa, I had one a few years ago before RA, never used it for meat but it was great for shaping blocks of foam to reupholster the sofa, think I threw it away after that, but wished I'd kept it, as like you I can't seem to get even a sharp steel to go through the cracking on pork. Just wondered what the weight of electric carvng knives is these days, so if you do buy one would love to know if it solves the problem.

Hi Ailsa i have difficulty cutting any meat. Even on my own plate! I do use a saw handled knives to cut anything in the kitchen, given to me by OT dept at the hospital, but like anything else now you have to buy your own! I do have polystyrene padding on my wooden spoons and this helps with pain in fingers i got this last year also from OT. Even if the OT dept can't give you anything like this they should be able to tell you where to get them from or there may be a help shop somewhere near where you live, i have found the staff in those really helpful.
